Sinopsis/Synopsis
A symbol of Mexico. From the beginning of time, it has been crucial to the development of Mesoamerican culture. The invaders called it the Tree of Wonders. There has never been a plastic artist in our country who has not succumbed to the temptation of depicting a maguey cactus. With its leaves and trunk, houses are built, clothing is woven and food is prepared; in its bowels lives the ocuili, the prized worm, the chinicuil, an ancient delicacy; from its heart springs the famed Mexican elixir: aguamiel, with which the creators decided to pleasure men, named octli, pulque. Today, it is in danger of extinction, but the Ñahñú and Nahua peoples of Hidalgo, Tlaxcala and Morelos venerate it and survive thanks to its bounty. Maguey reclaims the living memory in order to preserve our identity.
